Second Attemp...

Occasionally, as I come across interesting Oracle Database related issues, I’ll post my thoughts and opinions and who knows what else and perhaps, just maybe, others may find it interesting or useful as well.

Let the fun begin …

One needs to understand how Oracle works in order to use it safely.

Jan-2017.

This is my second blogging attempt, I originally created the Oracle Blog to talk about Oracle, my learning and findings in Oracle world.

But as we move on, I started working on Big Data Analytics, DevOps and Cloud Computing. So here is second attempt of blogging on Cloud Computing (AWS, Google Cloud), Big Data technologies , concepts and DevOps tools.

MAPR Hadoop Developer Certification Exam

Hi All,
I passed the MAPR Hadoop Developer Certification Exam on Jan 28th, 2017 and wanted to share my experience with exam and preparation so others can benefit.

Preparation :
For preparation of MAPR Hadoop Developer Certification, I registered for "HDE 100 - Hadoop Essentials" & "DEV 301 - Developing Hadoop Applications" courses.

MapR offers free online on-demand Hadoop training courses. All you need is sign up with MAPR Academy site, browse the course, register and start learning!
HDE 100 is an introductory level course about big data, Hadoop and the Hadoop ecosystem.

DEV 301 covers how to write MapReduce applications, debugging, managing jobs, improving performance, working with different data sources, managing workflows, and using other programming languages for MapReduce. Both these courses are essential and help in exam preparation.

I also setup the MapR Sandbox on my laptop and followed the lab exercise given in Couse video.

I spent almost 2 weeks in preparation, Since I had prior understanding of Apache Hadoop it did not take much time understanding MARP version of the Big data solution architecture. However, preparation time may vary from person to person.
I have also read MapReduce chapters of the following book. This book is called Hadoop Bible
Exam:

I registered 2 days prior to the exam and logged into the examslocal website and could see a launch button 15 min before the exam time. After clicking the launch button, exam application asked me to share camera and desktop screen, shared the camera and desktop. I could see a chat window and the online proctor asked to show valid Government ID. He also asked me to show him the room and the desk where I was sitting for the exam. After verifying all these he initiated the exam.

I got 71 objective questions to complete in 120 minutes. Few of the questions were direct & few were tricky; a code snippet could be part of the question or answer. You have the provision to Flag the questions you would like to answer/review later. I managed to complete the exam in 65 minutes and was nervous until I finally saw "Congratulations" and PASS message appearing on the screen. No score or percentage would be shared. It will be either a "PASS" or "FAIL".

Questions were very conceptual covering DEV 301 topics. DEV 301 MAPR course is sufficient to prepare for MCHD certifications. Focus on each and every topic.
Overall it was a good learning experience. I am a certified professional now.

 I hope this helps !!

 Best of luck!
